About

Dr. Morsi

Dr. Morsi is a full Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, San Diego State University. He earned his Doctorate in 1996, from the Department of Materials, University of Oxford, UK, in the processing and properties of particulate reinforced ceramic matrix composites. He has taught on various topics including Nanomaterials, Powder Metallurgy, Engineering Materials, Materials, Design and Manufacturing, Advanced Materials Processing and Thermodynamics. He is the recipient of multiple awards related to teaching and research, including the Mechanical Engineering Favorite Professor Award (voted by mechanical engineering students), the College-wide Northrop Grumman excellence in teaching award and the SDSU Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award.

His research area is Materials Science with a focus on processing and properties of metals, intermetallic, ceramics and their composites. His current activities and interests include spark plasma processing, processing of carbon nanotube reinforced composites, the development of novel metallic composite systems and foams, and processing-microstructure-properties relations in engineering materials. Dr. Morsi has published extensively in the areas of materials science, materials processing and powder metallurgy, and advised more than 100 PhD, MS and undergraduate research students. His research has been largely funded by the National Science Foundation and he currently serves as Associate Editor for the ASME Journal - Engineering Materials and Technology (JEMT) and is on the editorial board of two other materials journals.
